Thrissur is also known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala because of its cultural, spiritual and religious leanings towards history. It houses the Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy, Kerala Lalita Kala Akademi and Kerala Sahitya Academy. The city hosts the Thrissur Pooram festival, the most colourful and spectacular temple festival in Kerala. The festival is held at the Thekkinkadu Maidan in April or May. Thrissur has a large number of well-known temples including theThiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple, Vadakkumnathan temple and Paramekkavu temple, as well as two famous churches, the Our Lady of Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral and the Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours.Thrissur is also the venue of Pulikali during Onam celebrations in August or September.

Thrissur Pooram
Thrissur is best known for its mammoth Pooram Festival, which is the most colourful and spectacular temple festival of Kerala. The legends and myths behind each festival of Kerala are many, varied and equally interesting. Since the word pooram literally means a group or a meeting, it was believed that every year the dynastic gods and goddesses of neighbouring province met together for a day of celebration. This usually happened on the pooram asterism of one of the spring months.
Aarattupuzha Pooram
The famous Ayyappa temple at Aarattupuzha is just 14 kms from Thrissur, and celebrates its annual pooram festival during March. The final pooram is conducted with sixty one caparisoned elephants bearing bright coloured umbrellas and parasols, presenting an unparalleled spectacle. Guruvayoor Temple
29 km northwest of Thrissur, Guruvayoor, where the famous Sree Krishan Temple is situated, is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres of Kerala. The historic temple is shrouded in mystery. According to belief, the temple was created by 'Guru'- the preceptor of the gods and 'Vayu'- the God of winds. You see pilgrims all around you engrossed in the maya of Lord Krishna. The very ambiance of the temple fragrant by incense sticks and dhoops besides being surrounded by coconut palms will refresh your mind and body. This is among the most revered pilgrimage destinations in Kerala.

Peechi Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary

Peechi Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 20 km east of Thrisur district of the evergreen Indian state of Kerala. The sanctuary was established in 1958, and its headquarter is in Peechi. It includes the forests of Palappilli-Nelliyampathi, that cover a large area of Chimminy Wildlife Sanctuary. Peechi Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over a huge area of 125 sq km. Throughout the year you will find the pleasant atmosphere in the sanctuary, as it is located in the lap of lush green forest areas and the beautiful hills, which varies from the altitude of 45 m to 900 m. Ponmudi is the highest peak of this region with an elevation of 923 m. Such favorable conditions create an ideal habitat for the flora and fauna.

St. Thomas Memorial,Kodungalloor
St. Thomas, the apostle, is believed to have landed in Kodungalloor (formerly called Muziris) in 52 AD. The St. Thomas Church established by him houses ancient relics. _________________________________________________________________________
